February is Heart and Stroke Month
Each year, more than 45,000 Canadians suffer from a sudden cardiac arrest. If the heart is not restarted within a few minutes brain damage and death occur. Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within the first 3 minutes of a cardiac arrest can increase the individual’s chance of survival by up to 75%. A reminder that St. Mary’s has an AED on the wall opposite the main entrance. St. Mary’s will run First Aid and CPR training in November.
